Mark Russo, PhD, is a former Army Intelligence Officer with 20 years of active and reserve service from the tactical through strategic levels. He is operationally focused and technically attuned to current cybersecurity and data science developments across the Department of Defense (DOD).

He was the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the Department of Education and the former Program Executive Officer (PEO) at the Department of Homeland Security where he led the overall system lifecycle development effort for the Office of Intelligence and Analysis, Washington DC.

He characterizes himself as a non-thought leader, but an active manager that creates and architects’ real-world technical solutions for the federal government. He is a highly respected and technical leader with over 50 books on the topics of cybersecurity, secure system development, and defense contracting.

He is an active learner with a B.A. in Political Science from Lehigh University. Mark has completed numerous classes from the Defense Acquisition University with level III certifications in Program Management, Information Technology, and Systems Engineering.  His most recent academic pursuits included an M.S. in Government Leadership in Cybersecurity from the National Defense University (Distinguished Graduate), and in 2021 was conferred a PhD in Business Analytics and Data Science from Capitol Technology University.
